Location, location, location…
Located in the quiet village of Nomansland in Wiltshire, Hillcrest cottage provides a wonderfully tranquil and relaxing base from which to explore the local area.
A two-minute walk takes you to The Lamb Inn pub, which looks out onto the picturesque village green and cricket pitch, right on the forest edge.
The famous free-roaming Forest ponies and donkeys (not to mention pigs, cows and guinea fowl) can often be seen enjoying life on the green, much to the annoyance of the cricket pitch groundsman!

The forest around Nomansland comprises a mixture of oak and beech woodland leading out onto open heathland. Dog walkers, hikers and cyclists can access the forest and its abundant wildlife directly from the village green – why not take a circular walk through the New Forest and return to The Lamb for a traditional pub lunch and a pint of local ale?
If fine dining is more to your taste, we can highly recommend Les Mirabelles – a popular French restaurant with an extensive wine list, situated right on the green. No need to worry about a taxi home when the holiday cottage is just a few minutes’ walk away!
There are many other good pubs and restaurants within a few minutes drive from the cottage. Our pick of the best three are below, but do check out Google Maps or Trip Advisor for more options local to the cottage. The New Forest has many fantastic pubs and restaurants to enjoy.

Our local pub recommendations
The Lamb Inn
A two minute walk up the lane from the cottage. Recently under new ownership, The Lamb offers a warm welcome and varied food. An ideal place from which to start or end your New Forest walks.
The Cuckoo
The place to go for real ale! The Cuckoo is a quaint little pub with a thatched roof that often holds beer/cider festivals in the summer. A half hour walk down the lane from the cottage, or a short drive in the car.
The Rockingham Arms
“The Rock” is just a short drive away from the cottage and backs out onto Canada Common – a beautiful place to go walking. You can also take an extended and very pretty forest walk over to this pub from the cottage.
